It was announced Thursday morning that Wisconsin’s Ice Age Trail, with its eastern terminus right here in Door County, is now an official unit ofthe National Park Service. Along with the North Country and New England National Scenic Trails, the Ice Age Trail will now have additional funding opportunities and equal standing with other National Park Service destinations. Senator Tammy Baldwin mentioned how the trail covers much of the state, and its value to the many communities it reaches…………
She also brought up how this national designation will benefit the communities along the trail, the state as a whole, and those volunteers who care for and enjoy the trail…………
Ice Age Trail Alliance CEO Luke Kloberdanz shared his excitement for this designation. He also mentioned how it will impact the economies of the ice age trail communities like Sturgeon Bay, Maplewood, Algoma, and Kewaunee…….
Achieving this status was a decades-long initiative for the trail, and Kloberdanz says it gives the trail and its thousands of supporters and volunteers the recognition they deserve.
