Pioneers, Storm Knocked Out of Tournament


Wabeno/Laona set the tone early with an attacking defense and beat Sevastopol, 60-31, in a WIAA Division 5 regional final on Saturday. Injuries and foul trouble took their toll on the Pioneers as the Rebels (19-8) opened a 16-8 lead with 10:01 to play in the first half. The Pioneers (22-4) made a push early in the second half and closed to within 30-21, but the Rebels answered with a big run of their own to put the game out of reach. Allison Albrecht had 16 points and Lilly Terry added 11 for Wabeno/Laona while Naomi Rikkola finished with 15 points for Sevastopol.

State Wrestling
Tiana LeMeiux of Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol finished as state runner up at the Individual State Wrestling Tournament. LeMeiux (36-6) was pinned by Carley Ceshker of Badger (22-0) in :59 seconds. Hailey Veeser of Southern Door (33-7) finished in 4th place.

Caleb Delebreau of Luxemburg-Casco is the Division 2 138 pound state champion after a 3-2 decision over Cole Bozile of Oconto Falls. Max Ronsman is runner up after a 6-1 decision loss to Danny Heiser of Evansville. Carson Neubert (3rd) Carson Blohowiak (4th) Blakelee Bastian (5th) Jake Jandrin (6th) Michael Bostwick (6th) Isaac Jerabek (6th) and Trace Schoenebeck (6th) and Kiley Georgel (4th) all placed for LC. The Spartans are in the Division 2 Team State Tournament along with Kewaskum, Prairie de Chien and Saint Croix Falls on March 2nd at the UW-Field House in Madison.
