Door County Bookmobile Restoration Continues

Door County Bookmobile Restoration Continues

We recently spoke with Egg Harbor Historical Society board member John Sawyer about their ongoing work restoring the old Door County Bookmobile. This large historical “library on wheels” was in service up until 1989, but this last year, efforts began to have it restored and to resume service across the county. Sawyer shared with us the latest work done on the vehicle and when they hope to have the restoration completed…

Another new development is the nonprofit organization recently formed to run the restoration and forthcoming programming of the book mobile since it will service much more than just Egg Harbor…

Their fundraising goal for the restoration and return to service is $500,000, and thus far they have raised just over $236,000. Their next big celebratory event will be a gala where they transfer ownership to the new nonprofit. Sawyer has more details on storage of the bookmobile and the nonprofit’s office location…

They are now seeking volunteer drivers for the bookmobile when it goes into service later this year. They plan on starting their book giveaway trips to Door County students in kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade in late September. You can find more information on the project, and how to donate, through their website at https://www.bookmobiledoorcounty.org/.
