Sturgeon Bay Man Sentenced to 31 Years in Prison for Fatal Hit & Run


It was late last August when 45 year old Joshua J. Gann of Sturgeon Bay was operating a motor-vehicle while intoxicated and he caused a hit & run fatality on Sturgeon Bay’s Gordon Road, claiming the life of Marilyn Vandenbogart.
In November he gave up his right to a jury trial and pled guilty to 8 counts, including homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, resisting or obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct, 3 felony bail jumping charges, and 2 misdemeanor bail jumping charges.
Thursday morning was Gann’s sentencing hearing, and Judge D. Todd Ehlers sentenced Gann to 31 years in Wisconsin state prison, 21 years initial confinement and 10 years extended supervision. He must pay restitution in the amount of $36,494.10, plus all statutorily authorized surcharges, all court costs, and attorney fees. He must receive an AODA assessment and complete any requested counseling. He must maintain absolute sobriety and is to have no contact with the family of the victim. He must receive a psychological evaluation and follow through with compliance with all prescribed medications.
