Sister Bay clinched the Door County Baseball League championship for the second consecutive season, & their 3rd title in the last four seasons, with a 5-3 win over Kolberg Sunday.
Kolberg jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring a run in each of the first two innings, the Bays tied it in the 3rd, then Kolberg took a 3-2 lead in the 5th. That lead held until the bottom of the 7th inning when Sister Bay put together a three run 2-out rally. Alex Laughlin hit a bloop single, which was followed by hits from Tom Sawyer, Spencer Krause, & Griffen Cole, to give the Bays the 5-3 victory.
Winning pitcher Sam Forkert pitched 7 & 2/3 innings, scattering 8 hits and struck out 5. Matt Hecht finished for Sister Bay earning the save.
Jake Schneider took the loss, he pitched 7 and struck out 5.
Tom Sawyer had 3 hits, Spencer Krause & Griffen Cole had 2 hits each for Sister Bay, Cole had 3 RBI.
Trevor Reinhardt, Austin Rohe, & Tyler Neinas all had 2 hits each for Kolberg.
Washington Island clinched the 4th & final playoff spot, beating Egg Harbor 4-3 Sunday. The Islanders scored 2 in the 2nd inning, but Egg Harbor got 3 in the 3rd to take an early 3-2 lead. The Islanders answered right back, tying the game in the 4th, then taking the lead for good in the 5th.
Jon Kordon threw a complete game for the Islanders, striking out 10, to earn the win.
Joe Sawyer took the loss.
No one had more than 1 hit for Egg Harbor. Caleb Cornell had 3 hits to lead Washington Island.
The playoffs begin next week with top seeded Sister Bay hosting Washington Island, & 2nd seeded Kolberg hosting Maplewood. Both games begin at 1:30PM.
