Brewers GM adds president of baseball operations title

Matt Arnold

The Milwaukee Brewers announced Thursday that they have promoted general manager Matt Arnold to president of baseball operations and GM.

He will continue to oversee baseball operations for the Brewers, which he has done since October of 2022.

“Since joining our organization in 2015, Matt Arnold has been instrumental in developing a culture and process that has led to seven postseason appearances over the past eight seasons,” said Milwaukee Brewers chairman and principal owner Mark Attanasio. “Matt has been at the center of our success, guiding a talented baseball operations group that is respected and admired throughout the industry. Coming off three straight Central Division titles and advancing to the NLCS this year, we are proud of what Matt has accomplished and even more excited for what the future holds under his leadership.”

Arnold, 46, joined the Brewers in October 2015 as vice president and assistant general manager. He was promoted to senior vice president and assistant general manager in June 2019 and to senior vice president and general manager in November 2020.

During Arnold’s time with the Brewers the team has reached the postseason seven times, including the 2025 season in which the Brewers won 97 games, leading Major League Baseball and setting a new franchise record. The team defeated the Chicago Cubs in a National League Division Series and advanced to the National League Championship Series for the third time in team history.

“I am humbled and honored to be a part of what we have built in Milwaukee,” said Arnold. “This is a truly a team effort, led by the great support from ownership to the tremendous contributions of our baseball operations department, field staff and all of the outstanding players in the organization over the years. I look forward to continuing to work tirelessly to build upon what we have accomplished.”

Arnold was named 2024 MLB Executive of the Year, voted on by executives from all 30 clubs, becoming the first Brewers executive to earn the honor. He was also honored as MLB Executive of the Year by The Sporting News in 2024 and 20225 and by Baseball America in 2024.

Prior to joining the Brewers, Arnold spent nine seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays (2007-15), most recently as director of player personnel. Arnold, who has 25 seasons of professional baseball experience, has also served roles with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2000), Texas Rangers (2002) and Cincinnati Reds (2003-06).
