Solemn Oath plans to move into the Bay View taproom in the middle of next year, according to a Friday announcement.

“Growing up in Wisconsin, this has always been personal,” said John Barley, founder of Solemn Oath Brewery. “We are bringing our take on the modern American beer experience to what we see as one of the best beer scenes and communities in the world. We are proud to join the electric Bay View neighborhood, Milwaukee, and the Wisconsin brewers who make some of the best beer in the country.”

Founded in 2012, Solemn Oath has distributed its beer throughout Milwaukee for years. Investing in a brick-and-mortar location is a chance to “turn that relationship into a permanent home for creative partnerships,” according to the announcement from the company.

Solemn Oath hopes to use the Bay View taproom as a neighborhood platform for collaboration between all kinds of creatives, including chefs, artists and musicians.

The brewery plans to build out a slate of programming including chef and maker pop-ups, along with art and music nights.

“Modern expression and techniques drive our program,” said Daniel Ray, director of brewing operations. “The people of Milwaukee can expect world‑class beers across the board. Hop‑centric. Modern lagers. Barrel blends. And Bay View‑only runs layered in. We’re thrilled to enter this next chapter for SOB in Milwaukee.”

1840 Brewing closed its Bay View taproom after eight years of service in June. A few weeks earlier, the brewery’s West Bend taproom also closed after being open for a year.

1840 Brewing owners Kyle and Stephanie Vetter shared they were dealing with Stephanie’s stage four metastatic pancreatic cancer. Citing a series of financial challenges, the Vetter family decided to close both locations and focus on Stephanie’s treatment plan.
