Hammes celebrates 35 Years of healthcare real estate Innovation

Celebrating 35 years of business

Founded in Milwaukee in 1991, Hammes proudly celebrates 35 years of thoughtful growth and innovation in real estate. Over the past three and a half decades, we have partnered with healthcare systems, professional sports organizations, universities, and public and private entities across the country to deliver innovative real estate strategies and solutions.

Our early years included several large-scale master planning and development projects, including major sports facilities such as the Kohl Center at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Ford Field for the Detroit Lions, MetLife Stadium for the New York Giants and Jets, and the expansion of Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

The company’s defining focus, however, has been healthcare. One of Hammes’ foundational partnerships was with Aurora Health Care, now part of Advocate Health. Together, we planned and executed what was then the largest single-system ambulatory network expansion in the country. Over a 17-year partnership, Hammes delivered 125 outpatient facilities and 10 hospital projects with Aurora.

That spirit of partnership has guided our evolution ever since.

When health systems sought to preserve capital for clinical and operational priorities, Hammes responded by offering third-party capital solutions aligned with providers’ strategic goals. In 2012, Hammes Partners was established as a private investment platform. Over the next decade, the organization raised more than $2 billion across four investment vehicles.

More recently, Hammes launched an Operational Readiness service line to help healthcare clients prepare not only to open new facilities, but to operate them safely and efficiently from day one. We also introduced a healthcare-focused real estate and retail analytics platform to support data-driven decisions about market strategy and site selection.

Today, Hammes’ vertically integrated platform spans real estate and market strategy, development, investment, and property management. The firm has managed more than 90 million square feet of healthcare projects and is consistently recognized as the nation’s #1 healthcare developer by Modern Healthcare’s Construction & Design Survey and Revista’s Outpatient Development Report. Hammes has also been honored as a “Best Place to Work” by organizations such as Modern Healthcare and Pensions & Investments.

Yet our greatest measure of success remains the strength of the partnerships we build and the communities we help serve.

To the team members, clients, investors, and partners who have contributed to Hammes’ 35-year legacy, we extend our sincere thanks. Thirty-five years in, our foundation remains strong and our commitment unwavering—to our people, our partners, and the future of healthcare.
