In 2026, Leader Paper Products celebrates 125 years as a family-owned manufacturer rooted in Milwaukee. What began at the turn of the 20th century has grown into a modern envelope and paper converting operation built on craftsmanship, resilience, and an enduring belief in personal connection.

The company’s origins trace back to the mid-1880s, when artisans and engineers, including Gustave Wilke, helped pioneer envelope-converting machinery. By 1901, Leader Paper Products was established. Through industrial expansion, two world wars, economic downturns, technological revolutions, and the digital age, the company has remained continuously owned and operated by the Wilke family for five generations.

Located in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood since 1920, the company reflects the city’s strong manufacturing heritage. Skilled tradespeople and production teams sustain a culture grounded in precision and pride, supported by continued investment in equipment, process control, and workforce development.

When founded in 1901 as Leader Cards Works, the company produced calling cards, essential social instruments of the era. As customs evolved, so did the company, becoming Leader Cards, Inc. in 1949 and Leader Paper Products in 1995.

Today, Leader’s envelopes carry many of life’s most meaningful messages. Its converting expertise supports wedding stationery suites and milestone celebrations, where presentation matters as much as the message itself.
