Under new CEO, Harley to require office workers to return to Milwaukee HQ

For the first time in six years, Harley-Davidson will require some corporate office employees to return to its headquarters on Milwaukee’s west side.

Beginning in March, employees who live within 50 miles of the company’s historic campus at 3700 W. Juneau Ave. will be required to work in the office three days a week. That requirement will increase to four days a week starting in September, a company spokesperson told BizTimes.

Harley-Davidson declined to say how many employees will be affected. As of the end of 2024, the company’s global workforce totaled about 5,900 employees, roughly 82% of whom are based in the U.S., according to its SEC filings.

The move follows the arrival of new CEO Arthur Starrs, who began in October and is based at the Milwaukee headquarters. Former CEO Jochen Zeitz mostly worked remotely from his home in New Mexico.

Harley has had only a limited number of employees working in person at its headquarters since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2024, LiveWire Group, the publicly traded electric motorcycle company spun off from Harley-Davidson, relocated from California to Milwaukee, and the Harley racing team offices also moved to the site.

Also in 2024, Harley-Davidson redeveloped an employee parking lot along Highland Boulevard into Davidson Park, an outdoor event space. In June, the company sold the westernmost building on the campus to Central Standard Craft Distillery, which plans to relocate its main operations there.
