Gas engine manufacturer INNIO is planning an 83,000-square-foot expansion of its Waukesha facility.
According to plans submitted to the city of Waukesha, the company is considering the expansion for the west side of its 600,000-square-foot facility at 1101 W. St. Paul Ave., which is just southwest of downtown Waukesha.
The plans, which will be discussed by Waukesha’s Plan Commission on Wednesday, are described as in early stages. No formal action will be taken at Wednesday’s meeting.
The St. Paul Avenue plant has been operational since the early 1900s, when it was built for Waukesha Motor Co. Following several acquisitions in the 20th century and early 21st century, the business was eventually acquired by Austria-based INNIO Group, with INNIO Waukesha one of the company’s primary brands, specializing in large industrial gas engines.
According to INNIO’s website, the Waukesha facility is primarily used for engineering and design of its gas engines, with the heavy manufacturing primarily being done in Ontario, Canada.
The proposed expansion will serve as a state-of-the-art testing facility supporting a new engine line that INNIO intends to manufacture at this location, according to INNIO.
“The expansion will incorporate highly detailed and advanced testing procedures, along with dedicated areas for painting, packaging and shipping operations,” INNIO said in its project description. “This enhancement is designed to ensure quality, efficiency, and operational excellence as INNIO continues to advance and expand its manufacturing capabilities.”
Project plans do not include an estimated investment figure, but the company describes the expansion as a “substantial capital investment” that will include job growth, as well as “advance additional planned improvements to the facility.”
“Collectively, these initiatives reflect a broader strategy of sustained growth, operational modernization and continued reinvestment in the Waukesha community,” INNIO said. “Subject to the Commission’s approval, this addition marks an important step in INNIO’s vision for long-term operational stability, innovation, and expansion within the City of Waukesha.”
