The Institute of Museum and Library Services is a primary source of federal support for the nation’s libraries and museums, and they have announced federal funding to serve the public through exhibitions, educational & interpretive programs, digital learning resources, and other initiatives. The Door County Historical Society is one of 78 institutions nationwide to be recently awarded this funding through their Inspire Grants for Small Museums program.
The Door County Historical Society will use this grant to create permanent outdoor interpretive signage for the buildings at Heritage Village. This signage will allow year-round engagement since the buildings are currently only open seasonally. The signs will be equipped with tactile and audio elements to increase accessibility. Curator and Interpretations Coordinator Michaela Kraft says with the new signage they will be able to better connect with families and individuals utilizing 3 of their senses, even when the staff and volunteers are not present.
That new signage is now scheduled to be installed at Heritage Village by September of 2025.
