Door County’s First People Exhibit to be Unveiled Saturday


The Door County Historical Society will be host a special dedication of its newest outdoor exhibit Saturday, at Heritage Village, on the grounds of Sturgeon Bay’s Crossroads at Big Creek. This new permanent exhibit honoring the history of Door County’s indigenous tribes was funded by a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Kraft explains how this funding helped them provide a new educational resource for the door community…

The grant helped the historical society connect with various Wisconsin tribes with histories on the Door Peninsula, and there will be a guest speaker during the exhibit’s dedication from the Saint Croix Chippewa Tribe. Kraft explains…

The historical society will also provide attendees with a new book which delves into the tribal culture and history of Door County, a new valuable educational resource for the region’s indigenous heritage.
