Dryer Fire in Sturgeon Bay Laundromat Saturday

There was a fire call Saturday evening at Sturgeon Bay’s Maytag Laundromat behind the Spectrum building on Egg Harbor Road. At about 6:40PM, multiple calls came in for smoke coming from the laundromat. Sturgeon Bay Fire Chief Kalin Montevideo reports her department sent 2 engines with 4 firefighters to the scene, and she also arrived in her command vehicle. It was learned that the contents of one large dryer had started on fire, and a witness acted quick with a hand-held fire extinguisher. Fire Chief Montevideo explains…

Firefighters then used approximately 50 gallons of water and another hand-held extinguisher to ensure the fire was put out. They had the fire extinguished by 7:30PM and waited on scene for the owner to arrive at 8:15PM. The damage was limited to one large dryer and possible smoke damage, but the fire did not spread beyond the one dryer machine. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and there were no injuries during the response.
