Fatal Accident Wednesday Morning on Highway 42


There was a fatal 2-vehicle accident along Highway 42 in the Town of Egg Harbor Wednesday morning. Just after 10:30, the crash occurred just south of the intersection with Sunny Point Road. The initial investigation indicates that Glen Reimer, a 64 year-old Sturgeon Bay man, was southbound on Highway 42 in a van, when his vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. The van struck a northbound SUV, which was driven bay a 30 year-old Sturgeon Bay man. Reimer was transported to Door County Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. The 30 year-old Sturgeon Bay man was airlifted to a Green Bay hospital for his injuries. Each driver was the sole occupant of their vehicle.
Responding to the incident were the fire departments of Egg Harbor and Jacksonport, Door County EMS, Egg Harbor Emergency Medical Responders, Gibraltar Police, and the Door County Sheriff’s Office. That section of Highway 42 was closed with a detour until 2:15PM when the highway was re-opened.
A traffic reconstruction team from the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted with the investigation, and that investigation continues.
