Fire on Swamp Road in Brussels Tuesday


A fire call was made Tuesday afternoon for a wildfire in a swampy area in the Town of Brussels. At 2:35PM, the call came in for tall flames in the area along Swamp Road between Tru-Way Road and County Road Y. The Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department responded with help from the Door County Sheriff’s Office and the fire departments of Southern Door and Nasewaupee. B.U.G. A MABAS call then went out for assistance from the departments of Sturgeon Bay, Egg Harbor, Jacksonport, Baileys Harbor, Casco, Luxemburg, Kewaunee, and New Franken. Fire Captain Everard reports the swampy terrain was a little challenging, but they had 7 UTV’s and 7 brush trucks on scene along with two fire engines and tenders for the water supply. The Door County Highway Department closed off that section of Swamp Road during the response. The fire ended up burning between 2 to 3 acres of swampland before it was fully extinguished. Door County EMS was also on scene for rehab with the heat for the 65 firefighters involved. There were no injuries in the response, and all responders were able to clear the scene just before 7PM.
