Kewaunee County Junior Firefighter Program Receives Grant

The Kewaunee County Junior Firefighter Program was recently awarded a grant for over $24,000 from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. This was one of four grants given out to youth firefighter training programs introducing high school students to opportunities in the fire service. The program is a partnership between the school districts of Luxemburg-Casco, Algoma, Denmark, and Kewaunee, and 8 area fire departments. Students from these schools will have the opportunity to receive credit for a course through NWTC. They will also be active volunteers at one of these participating fire departments through a new recruit mentor program.
A combined total of $75,000 in grants was given to the Kewaunee County program, along with programs at Fox Valley Technical College, Madison Area Technical College, and Northcentral Technical college. The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services Secretary Dan Hereth says these grants support innovative educational programs that benefit those fire departments and lead to safer cities, towns, and villages across the state.
