Student Brings Handgun To Gibraltar Friday


The Door County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 17 year-old male student at Gibraltar High School brought a handgun to school Friday. Gibraltar’s school Resource Officer Deputy Heather Bemman was notified by a school staff member that a student had a brought a gun onto the campus. Together, she and the school administrator interviewed the suspect. They recovered a Ruger .38 Special revolver and the male was taken into custody. He was brought to the Door County Jail where he awaits a court appearance Monday ( 03/18 ).  The Sheriff’s Office continues the investigation along with the Gibraltar Area School District as they will conduct follow-up questioning of potential witnesses. Wisconsin state law prohibits knowingly possessing a firearm on school grounds.

In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office says this incident serves as a reminder about the importance of conversations with your children regarding school safety, and they emphasize that students should inform and adult if they are aware of any potential similar dangers to any students or staff.
