The Door County Sheriff’s Office released a statement regarding a fatality Thursday night at the Northport ferry dock in the Town of Liberty Grove. They report that shortly after 7:20PM, a 2019 Lincoln SUV was northbound on Highway 42 when it proceeded out onto the Northport ferry dock and continued off the end of the dock into the water. The driver was alone in the vehicle, and that driver was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
Response to the incident included the fire departments of Sister Bay/Liberty Grove, Ephraim, Egg Harbor, Baileys Harbor, Gibraltar, Washington Island, and Sturgeon Bay. Also on scene were Door County EMS, the Door County Dive Team, the Wisconsin DNR, and the US Coast Guard. That area of Highway 42 was closed off until approximately 3:15 Friday morning. The identity of the deceased is currently being withheld until they can notify next of kin, and the incident remains under investigation with no further details available at this time.
