Winds & Dry Weather Lead to Dangerous Fire Conditions

The dry conditions and the wind contributed to some grass fires near downed power lines in the Sturgeon Bay area Saturday evening. Door County dispatchers received eight calls Saturday for trees down and four calls for power lines down, and a few of those resulted in fires. First, at about 9:30PM, a call came from Clark Lake Road, just east of Nelson Lane, for a fire in the ditchline where a power line was down. Sturgeon Bay Fire Chief Kalin Montevideo explains…

Fire Chief Montevideo reports her department sent two trucks with four firefighters to extinguish that fire with approximately fifteen gallons of water. They were able to clear the scene in just under ninety minutes.
Then, at about 11:20PM, another power line went down on Tacoma Beach Road just east of the Bay View Bridge causing a similar fire in the ditch line. That same crew with two trucks and four firefighters secured that area and extinguished that fire with 2twenty gallons of water. All responders were able to clear the scene in about one hour, and there were no injuries reported both fire calls.
