Summerset Marine Construction plans to build new facility in Whitewater

Pier, dock and boat lift maker Summerset Marine Construction is planning to build a new manufacturing facility southwest of Innovation Drive and Howard Road in Whitewater.

The company received unanimous approval Tuesday from Whitewater’s Common Council to purchase two parcels of land, totaling 33 acres, in the Whitewater University Technology Park campus. The company plans to construct a 187,500-square-foot facility on the site to support its manufacturing, assembly, office, sales and general operations functions, according to city documents.

The $17 million project will relocate 90 of Summerset’s existing jobs to the facility and will add 60 additional jobs over the next five years.

City documents show a potential 66,250-square-foot expansion as well, totaling 253,750 square feet.

Summerset’s current headquarters is located just outside of Whitewater, and the company has additional  facilities in Madison, Green Lake and Brussels (Door County). Summerset’s Whitewater headquarters campus has seven buildings, according to city documents.

Summerset is requesting $2.5 million in tax incremental financing to support the new building project.

Founded in 1990, Summerset Marine Construction is a family-owned manufacturer of waterfront accessories. The company, known for its “Lifetime” piers, docks and lifts, expanded to Eagle in 2000, opened a 70,000-square-foot facility in Whitewater in 2022, purchased Madison-based marine supply company D.L. Anderson, and opened locations in Green Lake and Brussels in 2021 and 2024, according to its website.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
